“Ethical behaviour is doing the right thing when no one else is watching, even when doing the wrong thing is legal”
– Aldo Leopold –
It is just a question of time before you encounter a situation where you are in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people. When it happens, do not aid or contribute to the commission or concealment of a felony, do not assist nor support in any way, shape and or form.
Under no circumstance, should you knowingly, voluntarily, or intentionally assist and or fail to prevent the commission of a crime. Beyond any moral, ethical and other reason you may have, do not become an Accomplice. An Accomplice is criminally liable to the same extent as the principal.
When you are exposed to wrongdoing, the fiduciary duty to act resides with you. Collaborating with the corrupt and or looking the other way may only embroil you as an Accessory and or Accomplice. Reporting and or acting to mitigate, may expose you to an offensive process, risks, loss of your job, opportunity, and popularity just to mention few.
Without prior notice and when you least expect it, incidents of that nature may be initiated even by people you trust regardless of their status, position, gender, color, religion, affiliation, and nationality among others; that may include teachers, policemen, judges, vendors, presidents, spiritual leaders, family, friends, and others.
Your future and long-term success depends significantly on your aptitude to stand and position yourself as a trustworthy and loyal individual. It is evident that there is something wrong with your character if opportunity controls your loyalty. Would you trust someone willing to cross all lines just to accommodate his agenda?
Train yourself and develop your instincts to diagnose incidents of this nature as a reoccurring process in your daily routine; nothing is a coincidence and details do matter. Ethics work like a muscle that you must train, maintain and be conscious of. Don’t let your automatic mode nor your assumption, that others always do the right thing, affect you and your integrity.
When you find yourself in one of these situations, immediate action is required to protect yourself and your reputation. Your response may be anywhere from a straight confrontation up to total separation and beyond. No matter how you choose to react, do it meticulously and in the deliberation of all legal, moral and ethical aspects.
Strongly resent and never be part of a wrongdoing, it is common sense that any wrongdoing you may be part of will pursue you in the future. Why let people have power over you? Especially those that under different circumstances will not hesitate to use that knowledge against you.
“I Have Always been of the opinion that unpopularity earned by doing what is right is not unpopularity at all, but Glory”
– Marcus Tullius Cicero –
When you lose a job and or miss an opportunity because you did what you thought was right, it is part of life. When you lose self-respect and trustworthiness, it is the beginning of the clinical death of your career where you lose your ability to be a constructive member of society and part of any legitimate endeavor.
Not once we have refused clients, providers, canceled transactions, terminated key personnel and or stopped dealings of all kinds. On severe occasions, we separated ourselves to support affected parties legally and otherwise. That has always resulted in our favor. Stop the madness, keep true to your principles and act prudently with no fear.
You are welcome to consider our perspective herein to your advantage.
